2014 Summer Arnis Training

This year, the NARAPHIL is embarking on a lot of arnis activities by the Senior instructors lead by NARAPHIL Pres. Capt. Ric Sarte and Sec. Gen. Generoso Martinada Jr. to help local government in implementing arnis as our national sports and as well as self-defense and physical condition art.

Barangay Tanod has been the back bone of the local government in using to implement peace and security among its constituent since its inception way back in 1973. NARAPHIL has been training Barangay Tanod since 1977 in cooperation then with the MMDC (Metro-Manila Devlopment Commision). More than 25,000 Brgy. Tanod went under basic arnis training that subsequently adopted by the KB (Kabataang Barangay) as part of their physical condition art.

From thereon, Arnis became a part of activities by local government among the cities and municipalities of Metro-Manila with subsequent formation of community based arnis clubs. NARAPHIL arnis tournaments included then the community based arnis clubs besides from the regular school based arnis clubs.

The SIGLAKAS project adopted arnis as part of sports program promotion beginning 1980's that eventually led to the promotion of arnis nationwide thru NARAPHIL and MYSD's (Ministry of Youth & Sports Development) efforts.

Today, The San Pedro municipal government led by Hon. Mayor Cataquiz and in cooperation with NARAPHIL is conducting a FREE "Summer Arnis Workshop for the Youth and Barangay Tanod" which will eventually covers the entire municipality. The barangay of Sampaguita and Landayan were the pilot projects that will eventually help echo their training to other barangay.

This project hopefully will not only bring back the arnis activities among the youth in the barangay but create responsible citizens through arnis discipline. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the NARAPHIL staff as well for their untiring efforts of teaching arnis for free among its citizens.
